Needles
Recommended needle size:
1 16-inch US#4/3.5mm circular needle
1 24-inch US#6/4mm circular needle
1 set US#6/4mm double-point needles
The needles I am using for this project are my absolute favorite for hat knitting. They are the Knitpicks Caspian Options Short Interchangeable Circular Set. With small tips and 16″ cords I can knit adult and baby hats in the round.

Pattern
Tam pattern on the Knitty Site called Three Tams.
They are worked in the round in what the designer calls “beginner’s Fair Isle knitting”. Using a variegated yarn as the contrast color, you are able to achieve the effect of a more complicated Fair Isle pattern by using just the same two strands from cast on to bind off!
