Needles
Size 4 Circular Needles
The needles I am using for this project are my absolute favorite for hat knitting. They are the Knitpicks Caspian Options Short Interchangeable Circular Set. With small tips and 16″ cords I can knit adult and baby hats in the round.
Ear Flap Hat Pattern
I used size 4 needles and cast on 88 stitches. I made the ear flaps first and kept them on the needles. They were 20 stitches each. Then I knit them together using the remaining 44 stitches in a K2P2 rib. I had 24 stitches in front and 20 stitches in back. This hat was again a bit too loose but it can be tied with the pompom ties. I knit this at 5 stitches per inch, holding 2 together at all times.
