Woven Blocks Beginner Knit Baby Blanket Pattern

The Woven Blocks Baby Blanket is a beginner knit blanket pattern that is also interesting and enjoyable for more advanced knitters.

It is a soft, squishable, textured baby blanket for newborns and young children.

I prefer to make stroller sized blankets for newborns because they are small enough to wrap around the baby and also fit nicely over the baby in their carseat or stroller.

As children grow, these little blankets sometimes become the ‘lovie’ they cannot leave home without!

Instructions are included for larger sizes too!

Let’s take a look at how to make this darling blanket.

In this article you will find:

  • yarn suggestions
  • needle recommendations
  • free knitting pattern

It is an easy and quick knit that can be made with almost any yarn for any width and length. It has an interesting texture and is fun to knit. It’s super squishy and will definitely be a hit at a baby shower or for newborn gifting.

Supplies

To create this baby blanket you will need:

  • 350 yards of aran or worsted weight yarn
  • Size 8 needles
  • Craft Needle
  • Scissors
  • Tape Measure

Yarn

I would like to suggest 3 different brands of yarn that work well for this project.

1. Hobby Lobby “I Love This Yarn”

For this sample I used approximately 350 yards  I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby. This yarn washes and dries so nicely.  My daughter has several handknit blankets from me that have lasted 5 years of steady washing.
The sample above is knit with 350 yards of Linen.

2. Lion Brand Yarn

From the Lion Brand site – Even the best yarns wear down with frequent use and machine washing – until now. Lion Brand® created Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling™ for all your favorite projects that see a lot of wear and tear. Even before it is spun into a premium 4-ply acrylic, the fiber is treated to resist pilling. And, when pills do form (due to frequent use and washing), no need to pick them off – just throw the item in the washer and the pills disappear.

I couldn’t agree more, this yarn is fantastic.

3. Brava Worsted Yarn from Knitpicks

From Knitpicks – Versatility meets affordability; Brava is a 100% acrylic yarn that will keep up with all of life’s adventures! Gentle enough for sensitive skin, Brava is hard-wearing yarn that works wonders for projects where durability and easy-care is a must. Hypoallergenic and machine washable, there is no fiber more accessible and dependable than acrylic, perfect for children, new knitters, and charity projects. With so much flexibility, generous yardage, and a wonderful range of bright and vibrant colors, every crafter can enjoy the endless possibilities of Brava.
