Cuddly Soft Pompom Scarf Knitting Pattern
A free pompom scarf knitting pattern that is so easy to knit that if you can knit, purl and K2tog, this will be easy for you!
Round and round I knit with this 14 row repeat pattern that is easy to learn and practically knits itself. Soft and cuddly, the pompoms add a ton of fun to this great scarf!

Needles
Knitpicks Caspian Options Short Interchangeable Circular Set
Size 8 needles with a 16″ cord and a gauge of 18 stitches per 4 inches. Gauge is not strictly important but if your style of knitting is loose or tight you will end up with a larger or smaller scarf, so adjust accordingly. Swatching does help!

Pompom Scarf Knitting Pattern
With size 8 needles, cast on 52 stitches. Gauge is not important with this pattern. If you want to know exactly how wide it will be, swatching will help.
Join in the round and knit 3 rows, then purl 1 row.
Begin body of scarf.
Repeat these 14 rows until desired length:
Row 1 – Knit
Row 2 – Knit
Row 3 – Knit
Row 4 – Purl
Row 5 – Knit
Row 6 – Knit
Row 7 – Knit
Row 8 – Purl
Row 9 – Knit
Row 10 – Knit
Row 11 – Knit
Row 12 – Purl
Row 13 – YO, K2tog
Row 14 – Purl
When an inch short of desired length, ending after the 14th row, knit 4 more rows.
Bind off loosely on knit row.
Tip: As you add new skeins, weave in the ends shortly after so they aren’t buried in the ‘tube’.

Blocking
Knitpicks: Blocking Basics is a great resource to explain blocking techniques.
I like to use a capful of Eucalan in a warm sink of water and soak the piece for 20 minutes. Then take it out of the bath and roll it up in a towel. Unwrap and pin to a blocking map. This scarf was too long for that, so I simply pinned it to the carpet in my guest room and let it dry for about 2 days.
It’s my way of saying ‘job well done yarn! It opens it up and makes the scarf stitches uniform and helps prevent rolling.

Adding the pompoms:
Using the strings of the pompom to attach to the scarf, thread them through your craft needle and weave them through the cast on edge. Pull tight. Tie a knot, then a bow, then knot the bow. Using your craft needle or a crochet hook, poke the strings through the outside of the scarf into the inside. Repeat with the bind off edge.
Next: wrap your cuddly soft pompom scarf around your neck and head out into the cold. You will get lots of compliments, guaranteed!
