Healing, One Stitch at a Time
I didn’t plan on knitting the Cuddly Soft Baby Blanket during recovery from cancer surgery… but that’s exactly what happened.
When life slowed way down and I found myself with more quiet time than usual, I turned to something that’s always helped me stay grounded: my knitting. Soft yarn, fresh flowers nearby, and a blanket slowly growing in my lap — it became more than just a project. It was part of my healing.
This particular blanket lives up to its name. It’s cozy, cushy, and completely beginner-friendly — which made it the perfect project when I wasn’t quite up for anything complicated. Simple stitches, soft yarn, and the rhythm of the needles gave me comfort and progress at a time when I really needed both.
If you’re looking for something soothing to knit — or you just want a gift that’s soft as a cloud and full of love — the Cuddly Soft Baby Blanket pattern is available in both my Etsy shop and on Ravelry.
I’m grateful to be feeling better, and even more grateful for the creative work that helped me along the way.

Needles
I knit this blanket using my go-to needles: Knitpicks: Mosaic Options Interchangeable Circular Needles
They’re smooth, beautiful, and the cables never fight me — which is key when you’re knitting row after row of soothing baby blanket stitches. I highly recommend them if you want something that feels just as good in your hands as the yarn does.
I use US8 needles with this yarn, which is recommended on the sleeve of this particular yarn.

Yarn
For this project I chose a worsted yarn from Hobby Lobby called “I Love This Yarn” in the colorway “Fuzzy Slippers” and it’s exactly as soft and cozy as it sounds. It’s a worsted weight acrylic that’s easy to work with, machine washable, and super cuddly — perfect for a baby blanket that’s going to get a lot of love (and probably a few spills).
How much yarn should I buy?
Using worsted or aran weight yarn and assuming a gauge of 4.5 stitches to the inch:
(estimates are approximate)
- Stroller: 600 yards for 22 x 28
- Baby: 800 yards for 28 x 36
- Small: 1200 yards for 38 x 42
- Medium: 1700 yards for 48 x 60
- Large: 2200 yards 60 x 80
