Three Wishes from Winnie the Pooh
It’s so true when people say “everything I ever learned came from Winnie the Pooh”. The iconic story of Pooh Bear has so many insights that are relevant today. So in that spirit, I have designed this Three Wishes Blanket with these three wishes in mind:
Positive Thinking – ‘we haven’t had an earthquake lately’
Mindfulness – ‘take time to do nothing’
Individuality – ‘being different is great’
This is the 4th baby blanket in the Storybook Series of knitting patterns that coordinate hand knitted baby blankets to iconic storybook treasures.

Yarn
Project shown with Hobby Lobby’s Aran Weight I Love This Yarn in 3 colors for a stroller sized blanket 26 x 30:
- 175 yards Medium Blue
- 175 yards Sungold
- 175 yards Red
How much yarn should I buy?
If you would like to make the blanket bigger, simply cast on more stitches in increments of 22.
Assuming a gauge of 4.25 stitches to the inch: (yarn recommendations are approximate)
- Stroller: 175 yards each color for 26 x 30
- Small: 350 yards each color for 34 x 38
- Large: 525 yards each color 42 x 48

Three Wishes Baby Hat
Size 7 or 8 16″ circular needle to reach gauge of 4 stitches per inch. [Gauge is very important]
Sizes:
0-3 mths (6 mths, 12 mths, 24 mths)
With Color A:
Cast on 48 (52, 56, 60) stitches with MC. Do not join in the round yet. I like to use the long tail cast on.
Knit for 1″(1.5″, 2″, 3″) in garter stitch (knit every row).
Switch to one size needle up, using a circular needle again. If you are using interchangeable needles, that’s the easiest – simply unscrew the needles and screw on the next size up! Here are my favorite interchangeable needles for hat knitting. They have short tips and make knitting small projects nice and easy.
Join in the round and knit 1 row.
Next row: Increase by 0 (4, 4, 4) stitches evenly for a total of 48 (56, 60, 64) stitches on the needles.
Cut Color A and Change to White.
Knit 3 (3, 4, 4) rows.
Tip: When adding another color, here is how to fix the jog that you will see at the beginning of the round when knitting stripes.
Change to Color B and knit 1 row, purl 1 row
Cut Color B and change to White
Knit 3 (3, 4, 4) rows.
Change to Color C and knit 1 row, purl 1 row
Cut Color C and Change to White
Knit 3 (3, 4, 4) rows.
Change to Color A and knit 1 row, purl 1 row
Cut Color A and Change to White
Knit 2 (2, 3, 3) rows

Change to Color B and knit 1 row, purl 1 row
Cut Color B and Change to White
Switch to DPN‘s or use Magic Loop
Knit 2 (2, 3, 3) rows
Next row: k1, k2tog * repeat to end
Knit 1 row
K2tog * repeat to end
For 12 mths and 24 mths, repeat the last 2 rows until 12 stitches total left on needles.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail.
Cut yarn, thread yarn through remaining stitches and pull tight. Secure and weave in ends.
