Knit a baby blanket for a new baby to keep them warm in their carseat and stroller

Knitting a baby blanket is really fun and especially appreciated by new parents.  A stroller sized blanket is quick and easy, usually measuring about 22 x 30.  This pattern takes a minute to learn and follow and then you can knit it while watching TV, in conversation, or even reading!

What I love about knitting a baby blanket is that it is such a useful item and often cherished by the children as they grow older.  You never  know,  you could be creating the ‘lovie’ that goes everywhere the child goes.

Another great thing about this baby blanket pattern is that the blanket is reversible!  It looks exactly the same on both sides.  Let’s take a look at this fun pattern.

  • Tape Measure

Yarn

There are several great choices of yarn for this blanket.  I like to recommend acrylic yarn for baby blankets because they can be thrown in and out of the washer and dryer without a problem.  The project shown in the photo was knit with “I Love This Yarn” by Hobby Lobby in the color #100 Rosy Cheeks.   It’s quite soft and has a gauge of 18 stitches per 4″.

Another great place for worsted weight yarn is Knitpicks.  They have great sales and a wonderful reputation for great yarn and reliable shipments.  I prefer their washable and superwash selection of worsted weight yarn.

I have also used Appalachian Cotton from the LittleMonkeyShop on Etsy.  The yarn may be machine washed and dried and is 100% organic.  It’s a little more expensive but it is a beautiful alternative and makes a lighter blanket.  If you decided to go with that yarn you would probably want to use a size 6 or 7 needle and cast on more stitches because it is a DK weight.

Needles

I use the Knitpicks Interchangeable Needles.  I just love them!  They have flexible cables and smooth joins.  The tips are not too sharp and the wood feels great in my hands.  For this project I used a size 8 needle with a 24″ cable from the Knitpicks Rainbow Options Interchangeable Set.Knitpicks Needle

Miscellaneous

If you are a knitter, you will probably have all of these supplies on hand.  Scissors, stitch markers, measuring tape and craft needles.  In case you are running low on supplies you may want to head to Knitpicks while you are picking out your yarn and maybe even your needles because they will have everything you could possibly need!

I love these! The absolute best gifts that my girls have received were the hand-knit blankets. There’s no such thing as too many – they are always appreciated!
