Baptismal Baby Blanket Pattern

I knit this baptismal baby blanket pattern for each of my grandchildren’s baptisms. It is lacy and pretty but works for both boys and girls. I should know since I have 5 grandsons and 1 granddaughter! I have knit this in aqua, cream and white.

I like to make the baptismal baby blanket on the small side, about 22×28. It’s just the perfect size to wrap up these little ones for their big day.

Yarn

I made this with Cascade Yarn Longwood Sport. It’s available online at Webs and here is more information about this wonderful washable yarn on Ravelry. After knitting the blanket with this yarn, I soaked it in Eucalyn and then threw it in the dryer. It came out beautifully and my daughter has told me that she has been able to wash it again and again without a problem.

For this baby blanket I used 4 skeins, or about 1100 yards.

Needles

I use the Knitpicks Interchangeable Needles. I just love them! They have flexible cables and smooth joins. The tips are not too sharp and the wood feels great in my hands. For this project I used a size 6 needle with a 24″ cable from the Options Interchangeable Set.

If you are traveling soon, there is a set of needles that are approved by airport security and come in a wonderful compact case. They are from Annie’s Craft Catalog and their needles are just great. Throw them in your knitting bag and they will stay organized while you knit on the plane!
