Pattern Review of Cables in a Weekend
This pattern by Dori Kershner is an easy to understand, 12 row repeat that features cables and garter stitch. This review includes the needles, yarn, blocking method and tutorials to make this wonderful blanket knitting pattern.
Needles
Here is my favorite set of interchangeable needles. One of the reasons I like them so much is that they come in a great case and can go through airport security. I just love knitting on airplanes! Helps pass the time and I feel like I am doing something constructive. These needles have smooth joins and flexible cords. I highly recommend these needles!
Yarn
The pattern calls for chunky yarn but I used 2 skeins of Caron Cakes, a pretty, self striping worsted weight yarn.

Cabled Blanket
I used this wonderful cabled blanket pattern to make this blanket called Cables In A Weekend by Dori Kershner.
This chunky blanket has garter panels between the cables, so the right side rows (not including the cables) are all knit. This makes for an extremely quick and easy blanket! The chunky yarn allows the project to move even more quickly!
However, I decided against using chunky yarn and went with a worsted weight instead. I knit it for a baby and prefer a lighter weight blanket when I am knitting for babies.
This pattern features a 12 row repeat and the instructions are clearly written.
When finished, I blocked the blanket first by soaking it for about 20 minutes in Eucalan. I love using Eucalan because it is a no rinse wash for delicate fabrics. No rinsing provides less stress on the yarn.
Then I used blocking mats and pins to stretch it into shape. Blocking makes a huge difference in knitting projects and I like to think of it as a reward for the yarn for doing such a good job 💕
