Magical Flowers Baby Blanket Pattern

This blanket was born because I simply followed the yarn.  As I started knitting, little flowers began to appear.  I simply followed the yarn and ended up with one of the prettiest blankets I have ever made.  Here is an explanation of the yarn and tools I used.

Needles

I used Knitpicks for these wonderful needles that are my favorite interchangeable circular needle set.  They are called the Options Knitpicks Majestic Set.  The joins and smooth and the wood feels wonderful in my hands.  I highly recommend this needle set because this set includes 9 of their bestselling needle tips and 2 sizes of cables – all of which are stored in a handy vinyl case. Two small cable keys are included, which allow you to tighten your needle tips to the cables. Working on multiple projects that call for the same needle size? Use the included endcaps to safely store your project as you start the next.

Yarn

Hayfield Chunky Blossom Yarn.  It is a complete delight to work with.  An acrylic and nylon yarn, the weight is #5 bulky. As you knit with this yarn, little flowers begin to appear.  It is machine wash warm and machine dry cool.

Pattern

As I explained before, this pattern evolved as I knit the blanket.  It is fun to be creative and follow the yarn.  Here is how I knit this blanket:

Size 8 needle and 4 skeins of Blossom Chunky Yarn

CO 100 stitches

Border: Knit 6 rows.

Knit a row

K6, Purl until the last 6 stitches, K6

Knit a row

K6, Purl until the last 6 stitches, K6

Knit a row

K6, Purl until the last 6 stitches, K6

Watch for the flowers to appear!

Then:

Knit 4 rows

Next Row: K6, [YO, k2tog] *, repeat * until last 6 stitches, K6

Next Row: Knit

Now here is the tricky part.  I wanted the flowers to be in the stockinette sections of knit a row, purl a row.  But sometimes the flowers began to appear earlier.  In those cases I had 4 rows of stockinette instead of 6.

There is no wrong way to do this.  Knitting is creative!
