baby with handknit hat and blanket

Marlow Beanie

The Marlow Beanie is a cute and simple knit hat pattern that could also be used for newborn photography.

Or just wear the beanie to keep the baby’s little head nice and toasty on those colder days!

The hat pattern is a quick knit to easily complete for newborn photography.

A great stashbuster too! It is knit in the round.  I prefer using circular needles and switching to the magic loop method at the decreases, but double point needles also work well there too.

Let’s talk a look at how to make this cute little beanie.

Yarn

For this project I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn.  And oh how I love it!  It is 100% acrylic it is great for young parents who enjoy throwing the blankets in and out of the washer and dryer without worry.  It simply gets softer and softer with wash and wear.

I Love This Yarn is available at Hobby Lobby online.

Another awesome yarn choice:

Perfect collegiate yarn

For this project you will need 3 colors of yarn, about 30 yards of each.

Needles

Size 8 needles – I use Knitpicks Short Interchangeable Circular Needles for knitted hat projects

The Marlow Beanie is knit in the round.  These short needles are great for that.  Another technique that I enjoy using on small projects is magic loop.  Do not be afraid to try this!  Here is a great class from Bluprint that will teach you how to use Magic Loop like a pro.
