mimi baby blocks stroller blanket knitting pattern

Knit a baby blanket for a new baby to keep them warm in their carseat and stroller

Knitting a baby blanket is really fun and especially appreciated by new parents.  A stroller sized blanket is quick and easy, usually measuring about 22 x 30.  This pattern takes a minute to learn and follow and then you can knit it while watching TV, in conversation, or even reading!

What I love about knitting a baby blanket is that it is such a useful item and often cherished by the children as they grow older.  You never  know,  you could be creating the ‘lovie’ that goes everywhere the child goes.

Another great thing about this baby blanket pattern is that the blanket is reversible!  It looks exactly the same on both sides.  Let’s take a look at this fun pattern.

Yarn

There are several great choices of yarn for this blanket.  I like to recommend acrylic yarn for baby blankets because they can be thrown in and out of the washer and dryer without a problem.  The project shown in the photo was knit with “I Love This Yarn” by Hobby Lobby in the color #100 Pink.   It’s quite soft and has a gauge of 18 stitches per 4″.

Knitpicks is also a great place to find yarn.  They have great sales and a wonderful reputation for great yarn and reliable shipments.  I prefer their washable and superwash selection of worsted weight yarn when knitting for babies.

Another yarn that I have used for this project is Appalachian Cotton from the LittleMonkeyShop on Etsy.  The yarn may be machine washed and dried and is 100% organic.  It’s a little more expensive but it is a beautiful alternative and makes a lighter blanket.  If you decided to go with that yarn you would probably want to use a size 6 or 7 needle and cast on more stitches because it is a DK weight.

Needles

I use the Knitpicks Interchangeable Needles.  I just love them!  They have flexible cables and smooth joins.  The tips are not too sharp and the wood feels great in my hands.  For this project I used a size 8 needle with a 24″ cable.

If you are traveling soon, here is a set of needles that are approved by airport security and come in a wonderful compact case.  They are from Annie’s Craft Catalog and their needles are just great.  You may want to pin this for another day if you think you may need them:
