Three Wishes Baby Blanket Knitting Pattern
The Three Wishes Baby Blanket Knitting Pattern is available on Ravelry and Etsy
When creating a baby blanket using the Three Wishes pattern, it’s important to put some thought into personalizing it for the new little one. One fun and meaningful way to do this is by choosing three wishes for the baby.
These wishes can be anything that you hope for the baby’s life. For example, you might wish for the baby to always feel loved, to have a sense of adventure, or to find their passion in life. Whatever your wishes may be, incorporating them into the blanket adds an extra layer of love and intentionality to the piece.
What are your wishes?
I always wish for health, happiness and love of course, but I like to dig deeper and come up with some wishes that are more specific for the babies I knit for. For this blanket I found some inspiration from Winnie the Pooh.
My three wishes knit into this baby blanket are for….
Friendship
“A little Consideration, a little Thought for Others, makes all the difference.” – Eyeore
Courage
“You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.” – Christopher Robin
Patience
“If the person you are talking to doesn’t appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.” — Winnie the Pooh

Needles
When knitting a baby blanket it is important to use high quality circular knitting needles because they provide a smooth and consistent knitting experience and the blanket can sit safely on the cable without falling off the needles.
Selecting the appropriate needle size is crucial to achieving the correct gauge and ensuring your blanket turns out the right size. Be sure to check the yarn label for the recommended needle size and use a gauge swatch to ensure you’re on track before starting the blanket.
Investing in high-quality needles is also important to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable knitting experience. Look for needles with smooth surfaces and comfortable grips, as you’ll be spending quite a bit of time with them in your hands.
These needles are among my very favorite circular knitting needles to use for a baby blanket knitting project.

Yarn
When it comes to baby blankets, it’s important to select soft and gentle yarn that won’t irritate a newborn’s sensitive skin. Look for yarn that is labeled as “baby-friendly” or “baby-soft”.
Many knitters opt for natural fibers like cotton or bamboo or superwash wool. I personally prefer using acrylic yarn because it washes and dries in the machine which makes life easier for new parents.
The yarn used in this project is acrylic yarn from Hobby Lobby’s “I Love This Yarn” collection in these colors:
sea blue, arctic ice and fruit salad
How much yarn should I buy?
Stroller: 400 yards for 22 x 28
Baby: 700 yards for 28 x 36
Small: 1000 yards for 34 x 40
Medium: 1300 yards for 36 x 46
Large: 1600 yards 42 x 50
For example, if knitting the Baby size, you would choose three colors, and will use approximately 230 yards for each color (700/3).

Skills to know ↓
To take your Three Wishes baby blanket to the next level, there are a few tips and tricks to keep in mind. Firstly, when choosing your yarn, opt for a soft and washable material that won’t irritate a baby’s delicate skin. Acrylic, wool and cotton blends are great options.
Next, pay attention to your tension. Making sure you have an even tension throughout your knitting will result in a more professional-looking finished product. Don’t be afraid to go down a needle size if your tension is loose.
Another tip is to use stitch markers to help keep track of your pattern repeats. This can save you a lot of time and frustration if you accidentally lose your place.
Finally, don’t forget to block your finished blanket to give it a polished and finished look. Soak the blanket in lukewarm water, gently squeeze out excess water, and lay it flat to dry, making sure to stretch it into the desired shape.
